The Newman Educational Society, with its Head Office at Neotan Village, Miao, Changlang District, Arunachal Pradesh, was started in the year 2000. It became a
registered society on 16th May 2002, under the Societies
Registration Act, 1860. This is established for the promotion of education in
seven Districts of East Arunachal Pradesh. The Registered Office of the Society
remains in Neotan, and for practical reasons of communication and better
co-ordination, the working office is at Miao.
The Newman Educational Society, as of now, has 37 schools under its ambit in eight districts (i.e. Changlang, Tirap, Longding, Lohit, Lower and Upper Dibang Valley, Namsai and Anjaw) of East Arunachal Pradesh, with over 14,000 students. Most of these schools are recognized by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the process for the rest is on. The society has also initiated process to extend all these schools into High Schools and Higher Secondary. It inaugurated its first bachelor degree college, Venerable Uktara Bethany College at Manmow in Namsai District on August 2, 2014. From the 2015-2016 Academic Year, the Light of the World School in Miao became the first Higer Secondary School of NES.
